The National Testing Agency, NTA, with approval from the Government of India, has officially cancelled the NEET UG 2026 examination conducted on May 3. This major decision follows high level investigations into allegations of a question paper leak, initially tracked by the Rajasthan Special Operations Group, SOG. In a statement released on Tuesday, May 12, the NTA confirmed that the original test had been cancelled and that a fresh examination would take place to ensure a fair and transparent selection process for the country’s future doctors.
When was the last time the NEET Exam Cancelled?
Unlike the NEET 2024 Exam, where the Supreme Court denied a national re-exam for 24 lakh students and only required a retake for 1,563 candidates with grace marks, this situation involves a total cancellation. A re-examination was scheduled for these 1,563 candidates on June 23, 2024. The Supreme Court refused to cancel the entire NEET Exam 2024, saying that the evidence of a paper leak is not sufficient that would require a nationwide re-test. The CBI looked into these allegations.
NEET 2026: New Exam Schedule Awaited
The decision was made by seeing nationwide protests and demands for NTA reforms. While the candidates face the stress of re-preparing for the exam, the NTA has promised a revised schedule and new admit cards on exams.nta.ac.in shortly.
