CBSE Class 12 Chemistry Answer Key - SET 2

SECTION A

Q. No. Question  Answer
1 Which of the following is most basic? (C) MnO
2 Which of the following curve represents the first order reaction?

(B) (The graph showing t1/2 is independent of [R]0)

3 Which of the following solutions will have the highest osmotic pressure?

(B) 0.1 M CaCl2 (due to highest van't Hoff factor, i=3)

4 For a reaction: N2+3H2→2NH3 the rate of reaction with respect to NH3 is: (D) +1/2(Δ[NH3/Δt]
5 How many Faradays are required to reduce 1 mol of Cr2O2−to Cr3+ in acidic medium? (C) 6
6 Which of the following Grignard Reagent will be used to prepare .......

(B) (Cyclohexyl magnesium bromide)

7 The secondary valency of Pt in [Pt(en)2Cl2]2+ is:

(A) 6 (en is bidentate, so 2×2+2=6)

8 (CH3)3C−OC2H5 on reaction with HI gives:

(C) (CH3)3C−I and C2H5−OH

9 Aniline on direct nitration yields:

(C) 51%-para, 47%-meta, 2%-ortho

10 Which of the following is 'not' true about enantiomers?

(B) They have the same specific rotation.

11 An example of non-reducing sugar is: (B) Sucrose
12 Benzene diazonium chloride on reaction with phenol in weakly basic medium gives: (D) p-hydroxyazobenzene
13 Assertion: -OH group in phenols is ortho-para directing. Reason: -OH group activates the ring.

(A) Both true; Reason is correct explanation.

14 Assertion: Actinoids show irregularities in electronic configurations. Reason: 5f, 6d, and 7s orbitals have comparable energies.

(A) Both true; Reason is correct explanation.

15 Assertion: Components of azeotropes are easily separated by fractional distillation. Reason: Azeotropes have the same composition in liquid and vapour phase.

(D) Assertion is false; Reason is true.

16 Assertion: Two strands of DNA are complementary. Reason: Hydrogen bonds form between specific pairs of bases.

(A) Both true; Reason is correct explanation.

Section B

17. Ethanol and Acetone Mixture

  •  Deviation: Shows positive deviation from Raoult's Law.

  • Reason: Ethanol molecules are hydrogen-bonded. Adding acetone breaks these interactions, making the escaping tendency of molecules higher than in pure state.

  •  Boiling Point: The boiling point of the solution will decrease (as it forms a minimum boiling azeotrope).

18. Coordination Chemistry

(a) IUPAC Names:

  • (i) [Ag(NH3)2][Ag(CN)2]: Diamminesilver(I) dicyanoargentate(I)
  • (ii) K3[Fe(C2O4)3]: Potassium trioxalatoferrate(III)

OR

(b)

  • (i) Test: Add BaCl2 solution. The sulfate isomer [Co(NH3)5Cl]SO4 will give a white precipitate (BaSO4), while the chloride isomer will not.
  • (ii) Chelate effect: Increased stability of a complex due to the formation of rings by multidentate ligands. e.g., [Cu(en)2]2+.

19. Haloarenes Reactivity

Reason 1: Resonance effect leads to partial double bond character in the C-X bond, making it difficult to break.

Reason 2: sp2 hybridisation of carbon in C-X bond (shorter and stronger bond) or instability of phenyl cation.

20. Chemical Kinetics

Rate Change: Since volume is decreased to 1/3, concentration (C = n/V) becomes 3 times. For the rate law $Rate = k[A]2[B]1, the new rate = k[3A]2[3B] = 27 times original rate.

Order Change:No, the order of reaction remains unchanged by changes in volume or concentration.

21. Biomolecules Differentiation

(i) Amino Acids: Acidic have more carboxyl (-COOH) groups than amino groups; Basic have more amino (-NH2) groups than carboxyl groups.

(ii) Nucleotide vs. Nucleoside: A nucleoside contains only a sugar and a base; a nucleotide is a nucleoside plus a phosphate group.
