Is JEE Main Percentile and NTA Score Same?

The terms "NTA Score" and "Percentile" are often used interchangeably in the context of the JEE Mains result, but it is important to understand their specific relationship. The NTA Score is, in fact, the Percentile Score of a candidate, calculated by the National Testing Agency (NTA).

    Key Points:

    • Declaration Format: The official JEE Mains result is declared in the form of a normalized NTA Score (Percentile Score).

    • Raw Marks Secrecy: The NTA does not release the candidates' raw marks (the actual number of marks scored in the exam).

    • Normalization: Since the JEE Mains exam is conducted in multiple shifts with varying difficulty levels, the NTA converts the raw marks into the NTA Score using a normalization process. This ensures a fair assessment by equating the performance across different shifts.

    • Result Check: Candidates will be able to check their final NTA Score (percentile score) directly through their official scorecard once the results are published.

JEE Mains Result 2026 LIVE: Is 94 percent good in JEE Mains?

A 94 percentile in JEE Mains is a genuinely strong achievement; essentially, you scored better than about 94 out of every 100 students who took the exam. This score is high enough to comfortably qualify you for the more competitive JEE Advanced exam and gives you excellent access to many reputable government engineering colleges like the NITs, IIITs, and GFTIs.

While this performance is great for securing a good engineering program, landing the most sought-after branches—like Computer Science or IT—at the absolute top NITs will still be difficult, particularly for students in the General Category, meaning your final college placement will ultimately depend on your exact national rank and category reservation.

JEE Mains Result 2026 Live Updates: Is 70 a bad score in JEE Mains?

While it is generally not enough for a General category student to enter top-tier NITs or qualify for JEE Advanced, it is often a very good score for candidates from reserved categories.

Metric Expected Range for 70 Marks
    NTA Percentile 85 – 91 Percentile
All India Rank (AIR) 1.1 Lakh – 2.5 Lakh
General Category Status Borderline/Average; unlikely to qualify for JEE Advanced.
