Mumbai Rains Today Live: Schools Colleges Closed, Orange Alert, Check Latest Weather and Traffic Updates

As per the latest IMD reports, a yellow alert has been issued for the city of Mumbai. It is expected that light rainfall will be seen in parts of the city. Schools, colleges and offices to function as usual after a two day holiday. BMC has also urged citizens to remain cautious of the weather. As per reports, cities such as Mumbai, Thane and Pune have been put on high alert. Severe waterlogging issues are still being reported in low-lying areas.

With the IMD issuing a Yellow alert in Mumbai, no new notification has been issued regarding school holidays in the city. Schools in Mumbai and nearby areas have been closed since July 6, 2026 due to extremely heavy rainfall. 

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an Orange alert warning, along with gusty winds, for Mumbai today, 7th July 2026. In view of this, a holiday has been declared for all Government, Municipal, and Private schools and colleges in Mumbai for today, 7th July 2026, in the interest of student safety.

Mumbai Mayor Mrs Ritu Tawde, in a video message, stated that currently, Mumbai is experiencing heavy downpours and a ‘Red Alert’. Incidents of trees and branches falling due to strong winds are occurring. In such situations, ensuring the safety of you and your family is of utmost importance.

The IMD has forecast heavy rainfall in several parts of the country, which is, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Goa, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, Jharkhand, Bihar.

As per media reports, due to heavy rainfall and landslide situations in Pine, Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis has asked companies to proive WFH options for employees.

Today, July 7, 2026, is the second consecutive day of schools being closed in Mumbai. The IMD has issued an ORange alert for heavy and extremely heavy rainfall in the city. Considering the safety of students, authorities have announced a holiday for all government, government aided, private schools in Mumbai.

The IMD has forecast heavy rainfall in several parts of the country, which is, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Goa, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, Jharkhand, Bihar. 

The IMD had issued orange alert for several districts of Odisha, including Bargarh, Sambalpur, Angul, Sonepur, Boudh, Nuapada and Bolangir. The Odisha government has put the state on alert due to heavy rain for the third continue day, even as the IMD forecast it can be continuted till July 7, officials said.

Heavy rainfall has several parts of Uttarakhand as well due to landslides and road blockages in the hill state there are chances of schools to be closed. District administrations have ordered schools to remain closed in vulnerable areas after continuous rainfall disrupted normal life. The  authorities will update the closure of schools tomorrow.

Bikram Singh, IMD scientists, says, "A red alert remains in place for Mumbai today, as well as for Raigad, Ratnagiri, Palghar, Nashik, and the ghat regions of Pune district. The red alert will continue tomorrow as well. However, for Mumbai, we are likely to downgrade the warning as rainfall activity is expected to decrease, Check complete tweet here

As per the latest reports, Mumbai, Palghar, Thane and interiors will continue to get heavy rains with gusty winds, with bursts of very heavy rains in the next 3-4 hours. In some places, the intensity of rain will also increase.

The India Meteorological Department has issued a warning of extremely heavy rainfall for the Mumbai metropolitan region. A circular has been issued by the General Administration Department permitting the early closure of the Mantralaya and other government offices in Greater Mumbai.

Schools in Mumbai are closed today, July 6, 2026. School holidays have been announced for government, private, government-aided, and BMC-run schools. Red alert has been issued in parts of Mumbai predicting heavy and extremely heavy rainfall. 

The Lonavala Municipal Council (LMC) declared a holiday for all anganwadis, primary, secondary and higher secondary schools on Monday due to an IMD alert and heavy rainfall. As per the order issued by LMC chief executive officer (CEO) Ashok Sabale, the IMD has issued a warning of heavy rainfall in several places and extremely heavy rainfall at isolated locations between July 5 and July 7. Several private schools in Lonavla city have also declared a holiday for the day.

As per a Tweet by Maharashtra DGIPR, due to stones and soil washing onto the railway tracks at several locations between Khandala, Monkey Hill, and Thakurvadi, those tracks have been closed for traffic. Central Railway has announced that trains running between Mumbai-Pune and Pune-Mumbai have been cancelled today, on July 6, 2026.

As per reports, a school holiday has been declared by Collector Jitendra Dudi today, July 6, 2026, for all schools in the city and in rural areas of the district. The holiday has been announced in view of a red alert issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) for July 6 and a warning of heavy to very heavy rainfall at some places and extremely heavy rainfall at isolated locations.

University of Mumbai has rescheduled all the exams that were supposed to take place on July 6, 2026, because of rain and the weather warning issued by the IMD. The move is meant to be a precautionary one and will help to keep the students safe.

Although a holiday has been announced for government, government-aided, private and BMC-run schools and offices, both government and private will function normally. Mumbai has been facing extreme weather conditions with Orange and Refd alert issued for heavy to extremely heavy rainfall in the city and surrounding areas. Waterlogging and flooding issues have been reported in low-lying areas of the city. 

Even though all schools, colleges, and other education institutes are closed, the BMC reported that all government as well as corporate offices would function on schedule. It is recommended for all working individuals to check weather log and delays before planning their commute plans. Offices have been urged to provide flexi time or work from home options in order to save employees from harsh commuting conditions.

As of today morning, the current temperature in Mumbai stands at 27°C that feels like 32°C considering the high humidity percentage of 94%. Heavy rains are prevailing throughout the region and a precipitation chance of 95% is fixed for the coming few hours. Strong winds are continually flowing from west at a constant speed of 22 mph.

As per the latest reports, extremely heavy rain is expected over South-Central Mumbai, Thane-Kalyan and Vasai-Virar. Waterlogging is also reported at many placed and a Red alert has been issued by the IMD until 7 AM. 

Mumbai University on July 2, 2026, cancelled exams in Palghar district due to heavy rainfall. The revised schedule for the cancelled examinations will be issued by the university soon. Students are advised to keep visiting the official website of the university for the latest updates.

With heavy rainfall in the last few days across the city, several areas have been facing severe waterlogging issues. Low-lying areas are now submerged in water. Citizens are advised to maintain caution and ensure no open drains are left unmarked during flooding. A red alert has also been issued for very heavy to extremely heavy rainfall in Palghar district, and warned of very heavy to extremely heavy rainfall over Mumbai, Thane and Raigad.
