Karnataka School Holiday: Several Districts in Karnataka have announced a holiday for schools today, July 8, 2026. The decision to close schools has been taken considering the safety of students amidst heavy rainfall in the region.
Dakshina Kannada district has announced a holiday for schools and PUC due to heavy rainfall. As per reports, a notification was issued by the Deputy Commissioner regarding the same. Red alert has also been announced in the region, as per reports.
Karnataka School Holiday Announced: Schools, Anganwadi Centres Closed
District Collector Mohammad Roshan declared a holiday for today, July 8, 2026, for all Anganwadi Centres, Primary Schools and High Schools in Nippani and Khanapur taluks along with Belgavi City and Rural areas amidst heavy rainfall. As per media reports, the decision to close down schools was taken as a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of students amidst continuous rainfall and waterlogging issues in low-lying areas.
Block Education Officer of Sagar has also announced a holiday on the directions of the Tahsildar, as per reports. The decision has been made due to cold winds and heavy rain in the region around Sagar taluk.
Educational institutions have, however, been asked to compensate for the lost working days during the upcoming holidays.
Mumbai Schools Closed Today?
Palghar District Administration has announced a holiday for schools, colleges and anganwadi centres in the region for today, July 8, 2026. The school holiday has been announced considering the heavy rainfall in the region in the past couple of days and the weather forecast by the IMD warning for heavy rainfall. The holiday notification applies to anganwadis, government and private primary schools, government and private secondary schools, Zilla Parishad schools, municipal schools, aided and unaided schools, Ashram schools, colleges, vocational and training institutes.
Mumbai and surrounding regions have been experiencing heavy rainfall since July 4, 2026. Several low-lying areas in the city are submerged in water, while lakes have started to overflow, causing severe waterlogging issues in the region. Schools have been closed since last week, considering the safety of students to avoid any accidents. Citizens have also been warned about venturing outside until absolutely necessary.
