CBSE Grading System
CBSE gives subject-wise grades to the students in class 10th & 12th exam along with the marks secured by them in each subject. The given grades are reflected in the marksheet which is given to the students of class 10 & 12. The CBSE Grading System is based on the relative grading which is the more scientific approach rather than absolute grading wherein grades are given based on predetermined cut off marks.
Instead of fixed marks ranges like 91 to 100, grades are decided based on a candidate's position within a relative merit group. The grades vary from subject to subject based on the number of candidates passing the subject. For awarding grades, all the passed students are put in a rank order divided into 8 equal\ groups and are awarded grades as follows:
| Grade | Criteria |
|---|---|
| A-1 | Top 1/8th of the passed candidates |
| A-2 | Next 1/8th of the passed candidates |
| B-1 | Next 1/8th of the passed candidates |
| B-2 | Next 1/8th of the passed candidates |
| C-1 | Next 1/8th of the passed candidates |
| C-2 | Next 1/8th of the passed candidates |
| D-1 | Next 1/8th of the passed candidates |
| D-2 | Next 1/8th of the passed candidates |
| E | Essential Repeat |

CBSE Passing Marks
The Central Board Secondary Examination, CBSE Class 10th & 12th Board Exams have some minimum passing percentage, in which you must secure a minimum of 33% of marks in both theory paper and practicals separately, and maintain an overall Grade D1 or higher in every subject. If your score is lower than 33% you will be considered as not qualified or failed. So scoring 33 percent aggregate is a must to pass.
