School Holiday on 9th July 2026: As the monsoon is getting severe over several parts of India, July 9, 2026. School holiday is expected to be announced tomorrow for many states due to heavy rainfall, waterlogging, landslides, and weather alerts. The district administrations of some states have already declared school holiday or closure in rain affected areas. Some districts have asked to take all the precautionary measures and will decide by checking the latest weather conditions.

The situation in Delhi NCR and Gurugram is particularly serious as the rainfall is causing major problems to people.
Gurugram police has issued a Work from Home advisory for all the corporate offices for two days straight through its official X handle. They have taken this measure to reduce traffic congestion, ensuring public safety and severe waterlogging. Delhi remains under severe red alert and high chances schools to opt for virtual classes or a proper school holiday. 

Wayanad, Kerala is also on high alert because of the landslide. and several districts of Maharashtra and Karnataka also continue to receive heavy rainfall. Although not every district has officially declared a school holiday forJuly 9, 2026, looking at the current weather conditions and IMD report, there are high chances that the schools in these states will go for virtual classes or a school holiday. Students and parents are advised to stay updated with the local district administrations and their respective schools for any updates regarding the school opening schedule. 

Delhi and Gurugram: High Chances of School Closure Amid Heavy Rain

Delhi NCR has witnessed severe and continuous rainfall over the last few days. It has led to waterlogging, and high traffic congestion. Most schools in Delhi have given a school holiday but there is no official update from the district administration yet. 

In Gurugram, as the offices are closed for two days, it is expected that the schools will also be closed or on virtual mode. Although no city wide school holiday has been announced. Schools of all Delhi NCR which includes Noida, Faridabad, Delhi and Gurugram are advised to take precautionary measures if the weather conditions get more severe.

Maharashtra: District Administrations Monitoring Rain Situation

Several districts of Maharashtra have been witnessing severe rainfall since the starting of this week. Earlier, authorities have declared school holidays in Mumbai, Pune, Navi Mumbai, Thane, Lonavala and many nearby regions because of extremely heavy rainfall. District administrators are continuously monitoring the situation and are updating about it, as per the current scenario there are chances that the schools will be closed tomorrow, July 9, 2026.

Karnataka: Holidays Continue in Rain-Affected Districts

Heavy monsoon showers are affecting several parts of Karnataka. The district administration declared a school holiday for July 8, 2026. It is possible that the schools may remain closed tomorrow as well. In Karnataka, holidays are for schools, PU colleges and Anganwadi centres in Hosanagar and Sagar taluks of Shivamogga district due to continuous rainfall and strong winds.

Kerala: Wayanad on Alert After the Landslide

In Kerala, district authorities have not yet confirmed a holiday for July 9, 2026, schools in Wayanad and nearby affected areas are likely to remain under review, with closure decisions expected based on weather conditions and landslides. 

Other States Where Schools May Remain Closed on July 9

Apart from Delhi NCR, Kerala, Maharashtra and Karnataka, the Indian Meteorological Department has forecasted heavy to very heavy rainfall in several states, increasing the possibilities of district level school closures.
