According to final figures from the Election Commission, Goswami has defeated the face of the opposition, State Congress President Gaurav Gogoi, in a historic contest.

As the BJP-led NDA crosses the 90-seat mark in current trends, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national spokesperson Priyanka Kakkar took to social media to highlight the fragmentation of the opposition vote in Assam.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Kakkar questioned the internal dynamics of the Congress-led alliance, asking, "Who cut into the Congress party's votes in Assam?"

Kakkar’s remarks come at a time when the 'Asom Sonmilito Morcha' (ASM) is trailing significantly, with the Congress currently leading in only 25–26 seats.

As the state edges closer to a final verdict, Assam Congress President Gaurav Gogoi has raised a red flag over the sluggish pace of vote counting in the Titabor constituency.

Speaking to the media in Jorhat, Gogoi expressed concern regarding the delay in round-wise updates from the segment, which has historically been a high-profile Congress stronghold.

"We are observing that the counting in Titabor is progressing very slowly. We have formally enquired why the process is lagging there," Gogoi stated.

However, he maintained a composed stance, adding that "ups and downs are natural in every round" and urged party workers and the public to remain patient until the final results are officially certified.

Leading in 99 out of 126 constituencies, the NDA has surged well past the majority threshold of 64, reinforcing a dominant mandate across the state.

The BJP leads the charge with its candidates ahead in 80 seats, while its alliance partners, the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) and the Bodoland People’s Front (BPF), are maintaining leads in 9 and 10 seats, respectively.

In contrast, the Congress-led 'Asom Sonmilito Morcha' is currently leading in only 23 seats, with the Raijor Dal ahead in 2.

While the Bodoland People's Front (BPF) recently secured a sweeping victory in the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) elections, the political landscape in Western Assam remains remarkably fluid. In a major strategic shift for the 2026 Assembly polls, the BJP re-established its alliance with Hagrama Mohilary’s BPF, moving away from its former partner, the UPPL. This realignment, triggered by the BPF's dominant performance in the October 2025 local polls, places the NDA in a strong position across the 15 constituencies of the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR). 

Historically, the BPF has been a cornerstone of Assam’s power dynamics, participating in successive state governments since 2005, regardless of the party in power at Dispur. Raijor Dal president and Sivasagar candidate Akhil Gogoi has voiced strong optimism regarding the opposition's prospects as counting continues across the state. Defying exit poll projections that favored the ruling NDA, Gogoi asserted that the 'Asom Sonmilito Morcha' (ASM) is poised to comfortably surpass the majority mark.

"With 70-plus seats, we will form the government, and we will own the game," Gogoi told reporters on Monday morning. The firebrand leader, currently defending his Sivasagar stronghold in a high-stakes triangular contest, believes the eight-party opposition front will dismantle the BJP’s bid for a third term. Gogoi’s confidence reflects the alliance's strategy to consolidate votes in the tea-tribe and regional belts post-delimitation.

Vijay Gupta, the BJP candidate for the Guwahati Central Assembly seat, expressed optimism about the party's chances on Monday as the counting for the Assam Assembly Elections 2026 got underway.

"The Bharatiya Janata Party is confident that its government will be formed for the third time, and all of its candidates will win by a very good margin," Mr. Gupta stated. And I want to thank CM Himanta Biswa Sarma and PM Narendra Modi for that.

According to the latest trends released by the Election Commission, the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) has established a significant early lead, pulling ahead in 21 assembly constituencies. The opposition front, including the Congress and the Badruddin Ajmal-led All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF), is currently maintaining a lead in two seats each. While these initial figures primarily reflect postal ballot counts and the first rounds of EVM verification, the ruling coalition appears to be maintaining its momentum in its traditional strongholds.

Pradyut Bordoloi, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate for the high-profile Dispur Assembly seat, has expressed absolute confidence in the party's performance as counting progresses. Speaking to the news agency ANI on Monday morning, Bordoloi claimed that a palpable pro-incumbency wave has swept across the state, ensuring the saffron alliance's return to power.

"You can feel it throughout Assam that people have voted overwhelmingly for the BJP and the BJP-led NDA," Bordoloi remarked. He further asserted that by this evening, the electorate will have delivered a firm mandate for a successive BJP-led administration, with Himanta Biswa Sarma poised to resume his role as Chief Minister.

According to early trends, the BJP-led alliance is leading in two Assamese seats, while the AIUDF led by perfume tycoon Badruddin Ajmal is leading in one.

The battle for Jorhat, Assam’s cultural capital, second only to Guwahati, is being hailed as the most dignified contest of the 2026 elections. Despite the high stakes, the face-off between state Congress president Gaurav Gogoi and veteran BJP MLA Hitendra Nath Goswami has remained remarkably civil.  

In a striking campaign narrative, Gaurav Gogoi likened himself to Arjun, describing the incumbent Goswami as Bhishma Pitamah. Gogoi asserted that his "Arjun-like" focus is solely on unseating the Himanta Biswa Sarma-led BJP government.

Responding with trademark politeness, the sitting BJP MLA refused to engage in personal attacks. "He is our MP, elected by the people... a good orator," Goswami remarked, choosing to let his track record speak instead of criticizing his opponent.

Beyond the star power, Jorhat is a political melting pot. Its diverse electorate, comprising Ahoms, Tea Garden workers, Mising tribes, and indigenous Assamese Muslims, makes it a microcosm of the state's complex social fabric.

The counting has begun for 126 Assembly constituencies in Assam.

The Conduct of Election Rules state that votes recorded in electronic voting machines (EVMs) will be counted thirty minutes after postal ballots are tabulated.

Today will determine the fate of candidates in each of the state's 35 districts and 126 seats.

According to the Axis My India exit poll, the BJP-led NDA is expected to win between 88 and 100 seats, securing a landslide victory. As a result, the Congress-led coalition will only have 24–36 seats. With 70–80 seats, the BJP is predicted to overtake all other parties as the largest.
