NEET UG Re-Exam: Education Minister Orders Crackdown on Fake Telegram Channels Spreading Paper Leaks
Amid ongoing investigations into the cancelled May 3 test, Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan chaired high-level review meetings on May 20, 2026, directing an aggressive crackdown on organized misinformation networks ahead of the NEET UG 2026 re-examination scheduled for June 21, 2026.
Union Minister of Education Dharmendra Pradhan held a meeting with the representatives of various social media firms to discuss the issue of the surge in misinformation and malpractices in competitive examination through Telegram channels and anonymous online groups.
The meeting discussed the issues faced with the exam integrity and students' well-being due to the presence of unverified posts, leaked question papers, and coordinated cheating tips.
The ministry alerted to a spike in posts that purport to be leaked exams, answer keys and how-to guides for cheating, frequently shared through encrypted or anonymous messaging.
The platforms were pointed to include Telegram, which already has big broadcast channels and is relatively anonymous, allowing for quick and untraceable dissemination. Authorities called for the removal of such content because it leads to confusion, panic and unfair playing fields in the credibility of national exams.
NEET UG Re-examination: Security Measures
The Ministry of Education urged social media companies to enhance the mechanism for the rapid detection and removal of violations relating to examinations.
It wanted faster removal of channels and posts that spread leaked material, improved tools to track back to sources when legally appropriate, and regular law enforcement and exam officials cooperation.
Platforms were requested to put forward clear plans of action for the dissemination of false or harmful information relating to exams.
Why is NEET UG Re-examination Offered?
The minister also pointed to ' fool proof security' for the upcoming NEET UG re-examination in another meeting. Multi-layered precautions including strict verification of candidates, improved CCTV and biometric verification in centres, secure logistics of question papers and strict invigilation procedures were provided for.
The objective is to ensure the re-exam is conducted in a fair, secure environment protecting all candidates’ interests.
