Who is M.K. Stalin? 

Muthuvel Karunanidhi Stalin also known as MK Stalin. He is the eighth Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu and the President of the DMK. MK Stalin born on March 1, 1953, the third son of the legendary former Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi and Dayalu Ammal. He was named after the Soviet leader Joseph Stalin, a tribute paid by his father shortly after the leader's passing.

Since assuming office as Tamil Nadu’s head of the state on May 7, 2021, Stalin has spearheaded a government that prioritises inclusive growth, social welfare, and economic development, framed under his distinctive "Dravidian Model" policy.

He is married to Durga also known as Shantha and the couple has two children: a son, Udhayanidhi Stalin who currently serves as the Deputy Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu and a daughter, Senthamarai, who is an entrepreneur and education professional.

Education

Stalin’s educational journey included his time at the Madras Christian College Higher Secondary School and a pre-university course at Vivekananda College. He obtained a degree in history from Presidency College, Chennai, in 1973. 

Early Life 

Stalin’s political journey began in his teenage years with his families deeply embedded in Tamil Nadu’s political and cultural fabric. He founded the DMK youth wing in his Gopalapuram neighborhood in 1966. He was imprisoned under the Maintenance of Internal Security Act (MISA) during the 1975–1977 Emergency despite facing harsh conditions in custody.  He remained dedicated to both his party duties and his education, completing his undergraduate exams while incarcerated.
