What is Home State (HS) vs. Other State (OS) Quota?
To analyze the NIT Jalandhar JEE cutoff, students need to understand what HS (Home State) and OS (Other State) quotas are. Understanding the difference between the two quotas will help assess the reservation process during admission to NITs.
NIT Jalandhar offers 50% of its seats for Home State candidates. The reason being fewer applications from local students in the institute. So to bring more local students to local areas, the institute reserves half for local residents. Home-state cutoffs are likely more flexible than other state rankings. For instance, a home state candidate may get an allotted CSE seat with a rank upwards of 75,000, whereas an other state candidate should be then under 47,000.
