How Home State (HS) vs. Other State (OS) Quota Works?
When analysing the Top NITs JEE Cutoff, most students get confused about HS (Home State) and OS (Other State) quotas. Understanding the difference between both the quotas, will help understand the reservation process during admission to NITs.
Almost all NITs offers 50% of its seats for Home State candidates. The reason being less application from local students in the institute. So to bring more local students locals, the institute reserves half to local residents. Home state cutoffs are likely more flexible than Other state rankings. For instance, a Home State candidate may get alloted CSE seat with a rank upwards of 75,000, wherein Other State candidate should be then under 47,000.
