Home State (HS) vs. Other State (OS) Quota

The difference between Home State (HS) and Other State (OS) ranks plays a huge role in the seat allotment process. The home state quota gives an advantage to students. For example, an out-of-state candidate may need a rank under 9,000 for Computer Science, while a Home State student could get a seat with a rank around 12,000. This gap is also in branches like Civil or Mechanical Engineering, where local students are offered more flexibility than those applying through the national quota.

NIT Calicut Admission Process 2026

Admission to NIT Calicut involves the following steps that require both good grades and planning during the application phase.

  1. Entrance Exam: Candidates need to first appear for the JEE Main examination.
  2. JoSAA Counseling: Most seats are allotted through JoSAA where candidates have to select colleges and branches as per their preference. Seats are then allotted over six rounds based on rank and preference list.
  3. CSAB Special Rounds: If there are any seats left after the six rounds, the CSAB holds special rounds. This is a final chance for students whose ranks were lower.
  4. Verification & Reporting: After the seat allotment, candidates have to submit the documents for verification and pay the admission fee to lock the spot.
