ICAI to Introduce AI, Data Analytics in CA Curriculum
ICAI to introduce AI and Data Analytics in the new CA curriculum. The new syllabus will be discussed in a committee, following which it will be put up for public feedback. The updated curriculum is likely to be implemented from 2028
The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India will be introducing major changes to the curriculum. As per reports, students preparing to appear for the CA exams in India may soon have to study subjects related to artificial intelligence, data analytics, ESG and sustainability. The new additions are being introduced to keep pace with the evolving technological and professional changes.
The ICAI has formed a Committee for Review of Education and Training (CRET) to examine the existing CA syllabus, training structure, soft skills and examination system. The committee is expected to complete the recommendations by December, after which the proposals will be open for public feedback.
ICAI President Prasanna Kumar D has stated that changes are being planned because the accounting profession is rapidly changing, with technology becoming central to jobs and practice.
Subjects like AI, Data Analysis, ESG and sustainability are not formally part of the CA curriculum. ICAI believes future chartered accountants will need these skills to remain relevant in the profession.
The proposed changes could mean a shift away from a curriculum focused mainly on traditional accounting and auditing. The revised syllabus is expected to include technology-driven learning and practical industry requirements as companies increasingly rely on automation, digital systems and non-financial reporting.
The review committee will also examine articleship training, communication skills and the assessment system. Future CA students may see changes in subjects and in the way that training and examinations are conducted. The accountancy sector has seen growing demands for professionals with knowledge in forensic auditing, ESG disclosures and digital financial systems.
The curriculum review is aimed at preparing students for the evolving requirements.
The New Scheme of Education and Training was introduced in 2023. The new review is expected to build further on these reforms. The updated curriculum is likely to be implemented from 2028.
