The European Union has given 75 students the famous Erasmus Mundus Joint Masters Degree scholarships for the school years 2026 to 2028. This is a help to the relationship between India and Europe when it comes to education. At the time the European Union started the EU-India Student Ambassadors Network to make education and culture ties stronger between India and Europe. The Erasmus Mundus scholarship is a tough one to get and a lot of people want it. It is a paid program that covers the cost of school, travel and living so students can get their masters degrees at the best universities in Europe. The European Union's Erasmus Mundus Joint Masters Degree scholarships are an opportunity for Indian students to study in Europe.

India Continues to Lead in Erasmus Mundus Scholarships

The European Union team in India says that the new group of students is a deal for India. It shows that India is still the number one country to get Erasmus Mundus scholarships and it has been that way since 2004. This also means India is one of the three countries in the world for the 2026 school year. A lot of students, almost 100,000, are going to school in Europe right now. This just shows how much Indian students like going to school in countries.
The students who were picked will get to go to school in fifteen European countries. These countries are France, Germany, Belgium, Italy, Spain, Portugal, the Netherlands, Ireland, Finland, Denmark, Poland, Austria, Greece, Romania and Lithuania. Erasmus Mundus scholarships are really helping Indian students study at universities across Europe.

Students to Pursue Future-Focused Courses

The 2026 Erasmus Mundus scholars will enroll in interdisciplinary master's programmes aligned with global and industry demands. Key areas of study include:

  • Artificial Intelligence (AI)
  • Cybersecurity
  • Renewable Energy
  • Smart Urban Development
  • Nanosystems
  • Vaccinology
  • Pharmaceutical Sciences
  • Gender Studies

EU-India Student Ambassadors' Network Launched

To further deepen educational partnerships, the EU has introduced the EU-India Student Ambassadors' Network. The initiative brings together 40 student ambassadors from 20 universities across 14 states and Union Territories in India.
The network is designed to promote awareness about European academic and research opportunities, encourage youth engagement, and strengthen people-to-people connections between India and Europe. Participants represent a diverse range of institutions, including premier institutes such as IIT Madras, IIT Bombay, IISc Bengaluru, Jawaharlal Nehru University, the University of Delhi, and the University of Mumbai.

EU Ambassador Highlights Importance of Academic Exchange

Speaking at the pre-departure event in New Delhi, EU Ambassador to India, Hervé Delphin emphasized that Erasmus+ offers much more than financial support.
He stated that the programme provides students access to world-class European education, multicultural experiences, and international networks that help strengthen the strategic partnership between India and Europe. He also noted that the newly appointed student ambassadors would act as "agents of positive change" by inspiring more Indian students to explore educational opportunities in Europe.

Why Erasmus Mundus Matters for Indian Students

The Erasmus Mundus programme, launched in 1987 under the Erasmus+ initiative, is the European Union's flagship international mobility and academic exchange programme. It allows students to study at multiple universities across different European countries and graduate with joint, double, or multiple degrees.
For Indian students seeking quality education, global exposure, and fully funded master's opportunities, Erasmus Mundus remains one of the most prestigious pathways to study abroad.
The award of 75 Erasmus Mundus scholarships to Indian students and the launch of the EU-India Student Ambassadors' Network mark another milestone in educational cooperation between India and Europe. As Europe continues to attract Indian talent through world-class universities and generous scholarship programmes, these initiatives are expected to further strengthen academic, cultural, and professional exchanges between the two regions.
