Over 3,000 Bihar Teachers To Be Dismissed Over Fake Degrees, Forged Certificates: Education Minister
The salary and honorarium along with the interest paid to teachers during their tenure will be recovered by the education department, officials told PTI.
The Bihar government will remove more than 3,000 teachers accused of securing their jobs using fake degrees and forged educational certificates, according to news agency PTI. Bihar Education Minister Mithilesh Tiwari, on July 10, 2026 (Friday) said action will be taken against the teachers who were appointed using fake certificates and subsequently, will be dismissed.
Vigilance Bureau Conducted Investigation Into Teacher Recruitment, Found Massive Irregularities
Bihar’s Vigilance Bureau conducted a detailed investigation into the teacher recruitments conducted between 2006 and 2015, following which the decision to remove the teachers was taken.
"The department has been directed to take strict action against more than 3,000 government teachers accused of securing appointments using fake degrees and forged educational certificates. The decision has been taken following a detailed investigation conducted by the state Vigilance Bureau into recruitment carried out between 2006 and 2015", the education minister told PTI.
The investigation found several irregularities including fake educational documents and fabricated academic documents used during the teacher recruitment.
CM Nitish Kumar Had Ordered The Investigation
The education minister added that the earlier Chief Minister of Bihar, Nitish Kumar had ordered the investigation into the teacher recruitment process. Officials said FIRs have been registered against these teachers and have been designated as accused.
"After their dismissal, strict disciplinary action will be initiated against them. The NDA governments at the Centre and in the state follow a policy of zero tolerance towards corruption. I must point out that the vigilance inquiry into the matter was ordered by Nitish Kumar when he was the chief minister," the education minister said.
Salaries And Honorariums To Be Recovered From Teachers, Several Already Resigned
The salary and honorarium along with the interest paid to teachers during their tenure will be recovered by the education department, officials told PTI.
"Investigators found that several candidates appointed as teachers had produced certificates issued by fake colleges and several others had used forged educational qualifications to secure teaching jobs," officials said.
Several teachers have resigned before any action could be taken against them. Officials said action will be taken against such teachers also.
"Action will also be taken against them by the department," the officials added.
