According to recent data from the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Madhya Pradesh is the largest producer of ginger with yielding over 600,000 tonnes annually. The central state benefits from well-drained, fertile sandy loam soils with a balanced pH level (5.5 to 6.5) and optimal temperature ranges (25 °C  to 35 °C ), creating ideal conditions for large-scale production.

NITI Aayog recognised Mizoram as an important crucial zone for premium quality ginger like Thingpui and Thinglaidum  which has also received Geographical Indication (GI) tags, famous for thier distinct aroma, low fiber content, and remarkably high oil density. Mizo ginger contains 6–8% oleoresin, which is double the global average of 3%.
