What Is the Lok Sabha?

The Lok Sabha is also known as House of People and is the lower house of Parliament. The members of Lok Sabha are directly elected through general elections in every 5 years. The Lok Sabha (House of the People) was duly constituted for the first time on 17 April 1952 after the first General Elections held from 25 October 1951 to 21 February 1952. 

What Is the Rajya Sabha?

The Rajya Sabha is also known as the upper house of the Parliament of India and is the upper house of Parliament. The representatives of the States and of the Union Territories in the Rajya Sabha are elected by the method of indirect election. While 12 members are nominated by the President for their contributions to fields such as literature, science, art and social service. Unlike the Lok Sabha, the Rajya Sabha is a permanent House and is never dissolved. 

Which House Has More Powers?

The Lok Sabha has greater powers in financial matters. A Money Bill can only be introduced in the Lok Sabha. The Rajya Sabha can recommend changes to a Money Bill but cannot reject or amend it. The Council of Ministers is collectively responsible only to the Lok Sabha.

Lok Sabha is presided over by the Speaker of the Lok Sabha. Rajya Sabha is presided over by the Vice President of India, who serves as the Chairman of the Rajya Sabha.
