The Haryana State Board of Technical Education (HSBTE) was established by the Government of Haryana under Haryana Act No. 19 of 2008. The board was formed to provide diploma education in fields such as Engineering & Technology, Architecture, Pharmacy, Management, Accounts, and Applied Art & Crafts.
HSBTE designs and conducts diploma, post-diploma, and advanced diploma programmes for its affiliated institutions. The board was set up to meet the growing academic and examination needs of students and colleges in the state. At present, around 191 polytechnic institutes are affiliated with the Haryana State Board of Technical Education.
