With the launch of the Digital Library Mission, the education system in rural Punjab has begun to see real improvement. Initiated on August 15, 2024, in the village of Esdu in Khanna, the mission has found its way into several districts and seats already. Punjab Rural Libraries are not only becoming centers of reading but also of learning hubs in the modern sense of the term.These libraries have been provided with Wi-Fi connections, solar energy, and digital access, as well as comfortable seating. They contain books on literature, science, history, and competitive exams, as well as the school curriculum. It is the first such modern learning facility that has been created for rural children.
The running of the 28 libraries in the Sangrur district is an indicator that the program is being successfully rolled out on the ground. Many such libraries already exist in other districts such as Bathinda, Ludhiana, and Patiala, with others being built.
Experts in education feel that village libraries improve reading behavior, increase educational performance, and boost levels of confidence and critical analysis abilities. Our endeavor is laying a strong foundation for a knowledge-driven Punjab in the rural areas of the country.
