WB TET 2022: Citing the ongoing general election process, the West Bengal Board of Primary Education (WBBPE) has formally postponed the interview procedure for applicants who passed the 2022 Primary Teacher Eligibility Test (TET). Following a formal declaration on Friday, this decision signifies a major halt to the state primary teacher recruitment campaign. The results of the 2022 TET written test, which attracted a large number of applicants from all over West Bengal, were finally announced on February 10, 2023. The exam was held on December 11, 2022.

In response to the findings, the Board announced on March 12, 2026, that the recruitment cycle will proceed. For eligible applicants from numerous important areas, including Purulia, Bankura, Malda, Paschim Bardhaman, and Birbhum, this notification provided a comprehensive, district-by-district interview schedule. However, officials concluded that continuing the interview sessions at this point would be unfeasible due to the Model Code of Conduct's enforcement and the logistical requirements of the electoral apparatus.

Board representatives affirmed that the deferment was required to prevent any overlap with polling tasks and to guarantee adherence to election regulations. While the sudden halt has caused concern among thousands of aspirants awaiting their final screening, the Board has assured that revised dates will be notified as soon as the electoral process concludes or upon receiving specific clearance from the Election Commission. Candidates are advised to monitor the official WBBPE portal for further updates.

What Did the Officials Say?

On April 1, the West Bengal Board of Primary Education (WBBPE) released a new announcement postponing all previously set interview dates for the 2022 TET until later. Board President Goutam Pal affirmed that the decision was made after consulting with the Election Commission, especially since some interview dates—like April 23—conflicted with the Jangalmahal belt's initial polling phase. Candidates from a number of districts, including Purulia, Bankura and Dakshin Dinajpur, who were scheduled for screenings between April and June, are affected by the postponement.

Candidates who have been waiting since 2023 for the recruiting process to end are extremely irritated by this delay. The WB TET is a crucial qualifying test for teaching jobs in government-aided schools, and this most recent obstacle exacerbates the ongoing uncertainty that thousands of applicants must deal with. Revised schedules are expected only after further discussions with electoral authorities.
