Over 12,000 Candidates Apply for DU’s One-Year PG Courses; 5,857 Seats Available
DU One-Year PG Admissions: The University of Delhi (DU) enrolled 12,111 candidate applications from its inaugural Four-Year Undergraduate Programme (FYUP) batch for newly introduced 1-year postgraduate courses. Accounting for 33.7% of 4th-year students, applicants compete for 5,857 seats across 46 disciplines. Eligible FYUP graduates with a minimum 7.5 CGPA can also access direct PhD entry.
DU One-Year PG Admissions: The University of Delhi (DU) has officially enrolled 12,111 candidates from their first batch of students from the Four-Year Undergraduate Programme (FYUP) into their new 1-year PG programmes for the 2026-27 academic session. Out of the 35,943 students who have chosen to join their fourth year of FYUP, almost 33.7% candidates applied for these 1-year master’s programmes. The availability of 5,857 seats in 46 disciplines, including 2,807 seats in the regular mode and 3,035 in Open and Distance Learning (ODL), constitute about 48.36% of the total application pool.
These 1-year PG programmes have been introduced under the guidelines of NEP 2020 by means of Undergraduate Curriculum Framework (UGCF) 2022 and provide high seat density programs averaging about 127 seats per discipline. In order to meet the increased student intake, DU has been expanding their class space, increasing their number of faculty, and even inviting faculty from colleges to conduct lectures at the university level. In addition to this, DU maintains their 2-year PG capacity for those who exited after 3 years with their basic bachelor's degree.

Key Academic Guidelines & Direct PhD Entry

PhD Direct Admission Criteria: Fourth year FYUP graduates having a minimum CGPA of 7.5 (7.0 in case of SC/ST candidates) are eligible for admission to the PhD programme without completing their master’s program in the 2026-27 academic year.

Retention of Seats for Two-Year Postgraduate Programs: DU has retained its intake of traditional 2-year PG programs for students who had left their studies after 3rd year with a regular bachelor’s degree.

Creation of Additional Infrastructure: To cope with the additional intake, DU is increasing class rooms, additional faculty, and honorarium for college faculties teaching university programs.
