Central Board of Secondary Education, CBSE recently called back evaluators for the checking of Class 12 answer sheets. As per the report received, evaluation work could not be completed in few remote regions due to technical concerns regarding on-screen marking. Teachers for a few subjects including main subjects like Business Studies and Computer Applications were called back at multiple locations for completing the checking for the class 12 board results.
Majority of the evaluation work has been completed for CBSE 12th Results. However, a few locations raised concerns over delays due to technological handicaps. This was primarily in remote areas where connectivity issues were raised by the teachers. To accommodate the same, the board has now decided and called back multiple evaluators for an additional two days worth of checking.
While the exact number cannot be gleaned, based on approximation, it is being estimated that checking of close to 2 lakh answer sheets might still be pending. Teachers will be working on the same for the next two days and the evaluation work is expected to end by tomorrow - May 9, 2026.
Why the Delay?
This year the central board has revised the way the answer sheets are evaluated. For better efficiency and security, CBSE introduced the On Screen Marking or OSM system for evaluation of the answer sheets of Class 12 board examinations.
In this, the answer sheets are centrally scanned at the regional centres and uploaded to the server. These are then provided to the teachers who then login to the central servers and mark the answer sheets’ virtual copy.
The system ensures that there is no ‘bias’ and changes cannot be made in the student’s answer sheet. OSM adds a much needed layer of security that is not merely limited to concerns regarding movement of physical copies but also of basic human error of totalling and tallying.
The larger work for the evaluation has been completed seamlessly. Teachers were trained and multiple training and mock evaluations were conducted to ensure an efficient transition from the traditional method.
However, the board met some roadblock in regards to technical compatibility. While the exact number is not available, it has been shared that the difficulties were largely in extreme remote areas where connectivity posed a concern that impacted the actual number of copies that could be evaluated by the teachers.
To compensate for the same, the board has now asked teachers and extended the checking schedule in urban areas. As per the information, evaluation of CBSE Class 12 answer sheets will be completed by tomorrow.
Class 12 Result Date?
Over 15 lakh students reportedly appeared for the Class XII board examination this year which amounted to nearly 1 crore answer sheets. The evaluation work is now nearing completion.
After the evaluation is done, the board will then process the result and compile it. The post-evaluation work, before OSM, used to usually take about 10 days, which also included the transport of the physical answer sheets and uploading them on the server. With OSM, however, it is expected that the post evaluation work will be completed in a day or two.
While the board has not shared a date, in 2025 and earlier as well, CBSE Class 12 results were declared around May 13, 2026. This year, the board is expected to release the results around the same time. Tentatively, the results are likely to be released by May 12 which is Tuesday. More updates on the release date are expected after finalisation of the answer sheet evaluation process.
