The Ministry of Education's Department of School Education and Literacy has officially announced the names of the awardees for the National Teachers Awards 2026. This year, 48 outstanding teachers from all over the nation have been chosen to be awarded the country's top accolade for teaching.
The educators have been chosen based on their outstanding contributions to classroom teaching, pedagogy, inclusive education, and student welfare. The award ceremony will be hosted by the President of India Droupadi Murmu at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi, on Teachers' Day (September 5, 2026).

Selection Process Involving Multiple Stages
The process of selecting winners of the National Teachers Awards follows a stringent multi-level selection process that helps to promote transparency and recognize the winners.
Online Self-Nomination: From June 15 to July 20, 2026, teachers from different parts of India have presented their self-nominations through the special portal launched by the Ministry of Education.
Evaluation at the State and District Levels: The applications submitted by teachers have been evaluated by District Selection Committees (DSC) and later checked by the State selection Committees (SSC) and Organization Selection Committees (OSC).
National Jury: The shortlisted candidates have presented their works before the National Independent Jury, which selected the finalist winners based on their success.
The winners have received Certificates of Merit, a cash prize of ₹50,000, a silver medal, and an invitation to the Teachers’ Day event to be held at Vigyan Bhawan with short documentary films covering their experiences.
