The Sadak Suraksha Force (SSF) model adopted in Punjab is now emerging as an example for the rest of the country. Launched under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, this force works on a combination of technology, data, and quick response.
Strategic deployment across a 4,100-kilometre road network, a response time of 5–7 minutes, and more than 60,000 lives saved highlight the success of this model. With modern vehicles and well-trained staff, the SSF has put the concept of the “golden hour” into practice on the ground.
Monitoring through speed guns, body cameras, the e-challan system, and artificial intelligence has improved road discipline. This has not only reduced accidents but has also strengthened traffic management. Transparency and accountability have become the backbone of the system.
With 28 percent women’s participation, the force has also gained social strength. Efforts related to the safety of women and children, action against drug trafficking, and suicide prevention have made the SSF a multi-dimensional force.
As part of future preparedness, the government has launched a ₹4,150.42 crore rural road upgradation project and a ₹91.83 crore road safety plan. Basic steps such as zebra crossings, white markings on the roads, and signboards are already working towards reducing the risk of an accident occurring.
The SSF is demonstrating that road safety is more than just an issue of traffic rules, but an effective life-giving mechanism that is leading Punjab towards a safe life.
