School Holiday: Schools across several Indian states, including Delhi-NCR, UP, and Rajasthan, will remain closed on Friday, September 4, 2026, for Krishna Janmashtami. Coupled with heavy monsoon rain warnings in hilly and northeastern belts, the gazetted holiday creates an extended three-day weekend through September 6 for five-day institutions.

School Holiday: Schools from various states in India will be closed on Friday, September 4, 2026, mainly because of the festival of Krishna Janmashtami. The state governments in areas like Delhi-NCR, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Gujarat, and Rajasthan have declared a gazetted holiday to enable the students and teaching faculty to celebrate their religious functions. In addition to this, the threat posed by heavy monsoon rains in some of the districts of the states has prompted the local district administration from hilly and northeast regions like Uttarakhand and Assam to declare the closure of schools.

This is because September 4, 2026, is a Friday, and most of the schools having a five-day week or Saturday holidays would have a long weekend up to September 6, 2026. Educational authorities have asked students and parents to keep themselves updated about the notification issued by the district collectors and municipalities regarding heavy rains and traffic diversion during the holiday period.
