Haryana To Launch 10-Day Bagless Learning Programme In 250 PM SHRI Schools

Haryana is all set to give its students a break from books in a meaningful way. The state will introduce a 10 day bagless learning programme in 250 PM SHRI government schools during this academic year. The idea is simple. Children should get practical exposure beyond textbooks. During these days students will try different activities based on what interests them. They will get hands-on experience from local artisans and farmers and professionals and industry representatives. The programmes have been planned in line with the National Education Policy which wants learning to connect with real life. Officials said the move will help students understand traditional skills and local professionals and explore vocational activities by working with people from different fields.
What Will Students Learn During These Days
A total of 551 skill sectors have been identified across the 250 PM SHRI schools for training. Right now 14 sectors are being covered and 183 schools already offer training in these areas. The remaining schools will be added step by step. Students of Class 6 will prepare three projects during the year. These projects will be linked to the skills they learn on bagless days, Schools will conduct both outdoor and indoor activities. Outdoor learning may include visits to nurseries and solar energy parks and biodiversity parks and farms and industry and training centers and panchayat and vegetable markets and railway stations and police stations and krishi Vigyan Kenras and historical or cultural sites. Students may also meet farmers, potters and carpenters and other local artisans to understand traditional occupations. Indoor sessions will include demonstrations on agriculture, soil, water conservation, animal husbandry, food processing, handicrafts, pottery, carpentry, tailoring and weaving. Students will also be introduced to new technologies and emerging fields.
Budget Approved For the Programme
The Haryana education department has approved Rs 9.3 cr for the programme across 250 schools. Out of this Rs 3.09 crore is set aside for transportation while Rs 1.8 crore will be spent on foods and other arrangements. Another Rs 1.4 crore will be allocated for educational and guidance activities. The programmes also include Rs 37.5 lakh for tools and equipment and Rs 22 lakh for painting and related materials. Officials believe the initiative will help students identify their interests and understand different career pathways and build practical skills that go hand in hand with classroom education.
