The University of Delhi and the semiconductor company AMD have joined hands. The two signed a memorandum of understanding on Thursday. The pact will train up to 10000 students in artificial intelligence over the next year. Students and faculty members will get access to industry software and technical workshops. What the AMD AI Engage Developer Program Offers
The partnership brings AMD’s AI Engage Developer program to Delhi University. Participants will get hands-on exposure to the company’s open source ROCm AI software platform. They will receive learning material and developer GPU cloud credits. These tools help students build and test AI applications. Students can also deploy their applications using tools used in industry. Under the programme students and faculty members will access an AI curriculum. They will join technical workshops and explore the open software ecosystem. Cloud based GPU resources will support practical examination. The training will boost innovation and research. It will also build developer readiness among participants.
Why This Partnership Matters for India
The agreement was signed by Delhi University Registrar Dr Vikas Gupta and AMD India country Head Jaya Jagadish. Delhi University vice chancellor Professor Yogesh Singh said such collaborations are important. They narrow the gap between academic learning and industry requirements. Jaya Jagadish said India has the talent and the ambition to lead the next wave of AI innovation. She said the opportunity now is to give students early access to platforms and tools. These are the tools that power real world AI development. The collaboration comes as India seeks to strengthen its artificial intelligence and semiconductor capabilities. AMD said the initiative is part of its broader investment in India’s technology ecosystem. This investment flows through academic partnerships and developing training. It also supports open AI innovation. DU officials present at the signing included South Campus Director Prof Rajni Abbi, Dean Academic Prof K Ratnabali also attended. DU Culture Council Chairperson Anoop Lather was there too. Dean of the faculty of technology Prof Sanjeev Singh joined the event.
