Bihar School Holiday: Bihar is witnessing a flood situation as many rivers continue to flow above danger levels, affecting lakhs of people in multiple districts. With heavy rain forecast in parts of the state and floodwaters disrupting roads, transport and normal life, parents and students are checking whether schools in Bihar will remain closed due to the ongoing weather situation.
Currently, there is no announcement declaring a holiday for all schools in Bihar. However, considering the flood situation, district administrations may announce school closures or changes in timings in affected areas as a precautionary measure.
Bihar Flood Situation: 34 Lakh People Affected Across 13 Districts
The flood situation in Bihar has intensified. According to the latest reports, more than 34 lakh people have been affected in 13 districts. Around 480 gram panchayats were impacted by flooding. The Ganga has crossed the flood mark at Sultanganj in Bhagalpur, causing authorities to issue alerts for downstream areas.
The situation has also affected road and rail connectivity at many places. The districts among the worst affected include Patna, Bhagalpur, Vaishali, Saran, Begusarai, Khagaria and Munger, while earlier flood assessments also identified Bhojpur, Buxar, Samastipur, Katihar and Araria among affected districts.
IMD Bihar Rain Alert: Heavy Rain Expected
The India Meteorological Department (IMD), Met Centre Patna, has forecast heavy rain in Bihar from September 8 to September 10. Thunderstorms, lightning and squally weather are also expected during the period. The IMD's district-wise warning system is monitoring individual districts for weather-related risks, meaning the impact can vary significantly from one district to another.
The forecast is particularly significant because several parts of Bihar are already dealing with high river levels and floodwater. Continued rainfall could further increase water levels and create difficulties for students travelling to schools in vulnerable areas.

Will Schools Be Closed in Bihar Due to Floods?
At present, Bihar has not announced a statewide school closure for September 9, 2026. Schools are generally expected to function unless a district administration, education department or individual school issues a closure order. However, district-level school holidays are possible in severely flood-affected areas. District Magistrates can make decisions based on waterlogging, road connectivity, river levels, safety concerns and the accessibility of schools.
