Yuva VIgyani KAryakram (YUVIKA), commonly known as the Young Scientist Programme, is an initiative by the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) designed with the philosophy of "Catching them Young," YUVIKA is a two-week residential program that brings the mysteries of space into the reach of school students. By providing a platform for early exposure to space research, ISRO aims to build a strong foundation for India's future scientific workforce.

YUVIKA Programme: Objectives:

ISRO has defined clear goals for this program to ensure it serves as more than just a summer camp:

  • Foundational Learning: To impart basic knowledge on Space Technology, Space Science, and Space Applications to younger students.

  • STEM Career Awareness: To encourage students to pursue research and careers in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM).

  • Hands-on Exposure: To bridge the gap between theoretical school education and practical scientific application through lab visits and experiments.

  • National Interest: To create awareness about the emerging trends in space science among the future building blocks of the nation.

YUVIKA Programme: Significance

The YUVIKA program holds immense value for aspiring scientists because it offers:

  • Direct Interaction: Students get the rare opportunity to meet and learn from senior ISRO scientists and experts.

  • Practical Experience: The curriculum includes model rocketry, satellite design simulations, and visits to advanced laboratories at centers like VSSC and SDSC.

  • Fully Sponsored: ISRO covers all expenses, including II AC train fare, boarding, lodging, and course materials, ensuring that financial status is never a barrier.

  • Inclusivity: The selection process specifically favors students from rural areas (Panchayat schools), ensuring a diverse representation from across India.

YUVIKA Programme: Eligibility

To apply for the YUVIKA 2026 session, candidates must meet the following criteria:

  • Current Status: Students must be studying in Class 9 as of January 1, 2026.

  • Schooling: Must be enrolled in a recognized school within India (CBSE, ICSE, or State boards).

  • Selection Weightage: Selection is based on a composite score. Key factors include:

    • Class 8 Marks: 50% weightage.

    • Rural School Student: 15% bonus weightage (for schools in Panchayat areas).

    • Online Quiz: 10% weightage (conducted during the application).

    • Co-curricular Activities: Up to 10% (Science fairs/exhibitions).

    • Olympiads/Rankings: 5% weightage.

    • Sports/NCC/Scouts & Guides: 5% to 10% weightage.
