Which Android Version Will No Longer Be Supported by WhatsApp?

So, if your phone is Android 6.0 or higher, you can use WhatsApp on your phone. If the version of Android is showing 5.0 or less, then you may not be able to use WhatsApp.

What Happens If Your Phone Is Running Android 5.0?

In the future, if you are not able to get your phone upgraded above Android 5.0, you may require an upgrade to a newer handset to be able to use WhatsApp with official support.

Users running discontinued operating systems will be alerted in the app and be reminded multiple times to upgrade their device, WhatsApp says. 

Therefore, before purchasing a new phone, it will be prudent to check if there is an update for the software.
