The ongoing bank strike stress is growing as the strike dates are coming closer. The State Bank of India (SBI) has issued an advisory on its official X account ahead of the nationwide strike. The nationwide bank strike is set to happen from September 28 to September 30, 2026.
As there are only 5 days left and only 5 working days of banking, SBI has asked and urged its customers to complete all their branch-related work. This advance transaction will avoid inconvenience in future.
This strike is called by the United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU). This strike is expected to impact physical banking operations across the country as this is a nationwide strike. Although, all essential digital services and ATMs are likely to remain functional during the period.

The upcoming nationwide protest is scheduled to take place on 28, 29 and 30 of September. Customers and students should keep a note, there are only 5 days left because Saturday and Sunday are bank’s weekend holidays scheduled according to RBI. Check the list below.

Which All Services Will Be Affected By The Bank Strike?
- All the services that require physical visit/documentation, may face delays during the strike period.
- Banking processes needing staff assistance at branches are likely to be disrupted.
- Cheque-related services, including clearance and processing, may be delayed.
- Other branch-dependent banking operations could be temporarily affected.
- Customers may experience inconvenience in in-person banking transactions until normal services resume.
How To Withdraw Cash If There Is An Emergency During Bank Strike?
If there is an emergency and you have to withdraw cash, stick to ATM machines. While there is a bank strike, all the digital services will work and operate normally. The ATMs and withdrawal machines will work for you. Only physical visits to the bank or encashing cheques will not be done. Banks have advised all customers to do all their essential scheduled bank work beforehand.

The United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU) has called out all the banks for strike and put some demands. All the bank employees across India started protesting on 12 September 2026. They are protesting for a 5-day workweek, PLI reforms, pension changes, and wage issues. UFBU has called strikes on Sept 11 and Sept 28-30, 2026.

What Are The Bank Strike Impact?
According to reports, the Finance Ministry is holding high-level meetings with bank executives, IBA, and NABARD for contingency planning.
In the bank strike of three days, major PSU banks may face disruptions. On the other hand, private banks will remain fully operational. Digital services like ATMs, UPI, mobile banking, and net banking will continue functioning despite branch-level closures.
