This year’s report highlights a widening gap between most mobile citizens and those with restricted travel freedom, even as several nations, including India, show signs of diplomatic progress.

For India it is a positive development for Indian travelers, the Indian passport has climbed to the 80th position in 2026, up from 85th in 2025. Indian citizens can now enjoy visa-free or visa-on-arrival access to 55 destinations worldwide. ranking places India alongside nations like Algeria and Niger. While India’s rank has returned to its 2024 level (80th), the number of visa-free destinations has slightly fluctuated due to changing bilateral agreements. Recent additions to India's easy-access list include countries like Angola and Kazakhstan.
Top 10 Most Powerful Passports in 2026:
Singapore retains its position as the world’s most powerful passport, offering access to 192 destinations visa-free. At the opposite end of the spectrum, Afghanistan once again ranks last, with its passport holders able to travel to just 24 destinations without a prior visa.
Asian and European nations continue to dominate the top tier. Singapore remains the undisputed leader, offering its citizens access to 192 destinations. Japan and South Korea follow closely in the second spot.
