What is SEMICON India 2026 and its Importance?
The Indian electronics sector has grown rapidly over the last ten years. Government figures from the Press Information Bureau show local electronics production grew from ₹1.9 lakh crore in 2014-15 to ₹13.11 lakh crore in 2025-26.
Mobile phone production alone grew 33 times which makes smartphones one of the top exported product from India.
To keep this growth going the government approved the SEMICON India Programme 2.0 with a total budget of ₹1,27,500 crore.
This second phase of SEMICON India focuses on building microchip factories. There will be set up of testing facilities along with making raw materials at local level rather than relying completely on imports.

The 15000 square metre venue at Yashobhoomi features an exhibition showing how raw sand gets turned into working electronic chips.
Global firms like ASML, Applied Materials, Lam Research, Micron, and Tata Electronics are attending to discuss new supply deals and factory setups.
The SEMOCON event includes six country pavilions representing Japan, South Korea, Malaysia, the Netherlands, Singapore, and Sweden.
It also features a dedicated Startup Pavilion with 40 young tech firms and a skill zone to help engineering students find careers in microelectronics.
