CTET Spetember 2026: Eligibility Criteria 

The aspirants preparing for CTET Papers 1 and 2 have to make sure that they satisfy the eligibility conditions before applying online for the same. Some of the eligibility criteria include age, education, teaching qualifications, nationality, and relaxation based on reservations laid down by National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE). CTET Paper 1 is meant for individuals who want to take classes of 1 to 5 levels, and Paper 2 refers to classes from 6 to 8 levels. Find the important eligibility criterion below:

1. Nationality

• Candidate must be an Indian Citizen.

2. Age Limit

• Candidate must be above 17 years 

• There is no lower or upper age limit for taking CTET examination.

3. Educational Qualification 

For Paper 1 (Classes 1 to 5)

• 10+2 with 50% marks along with passing or appearing in final year of 2 years Diploma in Elementary Education (DElEd).

• 10+2 with 45% marks along with DElEd is also eligible.

• Candidates have to pass Class 12 along with a minimum of 50% marks with DElEd/BElEd/BED.

For Paper 2 (Class 6 to 8)

• A candidate must have graduated with at least 50% aggregate marks and BEd qualification for Paper 2.  

• Senior Secondary education with at least 50% marks and qualifying or studying in the final year of 4 years' Bachelors in Elementary Education (B.El.Ed) or BA/ BSc.Ed or BA/BSc.Ed.

4. Qualifying Marks

• General candidates require 90 out of 150 marks to qualify, 

• Reserved categories have to score 82.5 out of 150.

5. For Both Papers

• Candidate who want to teach Primary and Upper Primary classes, can give both examinations in the same sitting.
