2 What is the force on a conductor of length L carrying a current "i" placed in a magnetic field of induction B? When does it become maximum?

The force is given by F=BiLsinθ.

It becomes maximum when the conductor is placed perpendicular to the magnetic field (θ=90∘), making F=BiL.

3 Classify the following materials with regard to magnetism: Manganese, Cobalt, Nickel, Bismuth, Oxygen, Copper.

4 The horizontal component of the earth's magnetic field at a certain place is 2.6×10−5 T and the angle of dip is 60∘. What is the magnetic field of the earth at this location?

2.6×10−5=B×cos60∘

2.6×10−5=B×1/2

B=5.2×10−5 T

7 What is "photoelectric effect"?

It is the phenomenon of emission of electrons from a metal surface when light (electromagnetic radiation) of a sufficiently high frequency falls upon it.

Relation: λ=h/p=h/mv

Where:

λ = de Broglie wavelength

h = Planck's constant

p = Momentum (mv)

What happens to the width of the depletion layer in a p-n junction diode when it is:

(i) forward biased and

(ii) reverse biased?

(i) Forward Biased: The width of the depletion layer decreases. This happens because the external field opposes the barrier potential, pushing charge carriers toward the junction.

(ii) Reverse Biased: The width of the depletion layer increases. The external field pulls charge carriers away from the junction, widening the region of immobile ions.

10 Mention the basic methods of modulation.  

The three basic methods of modulation for a continuous sine wave carrier are:
