Bank Strike September 2026: According to the recent statement by the Ministry of Finance, to curb the ongoing bank disruption, the banks will remain open on 27 September, Sunday.

This step has been taken by the ministry to rule out the 5-day closure of the banks that will hit the customers. As we all know that the bank strike is scheduled to happen from 28 September to 30 September, RBI has asked regional rural banks to remain operational. A three-day disruption would not have been a problem if that did not fall after a weekend.

As 26th, Saturday is the fourth Saturday, this adds up to a bank holiday for 5 days, and the Sunday the usual closure.

What is unusual? The RBI has asked banks to stay operational on a Sunday. The decision has been taken to ensure that customers continue to have access to essential banking services before the strike begins.

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has approved the opening of bank branches, offices, ATM-linked branches and currency chests on Sunday.

PSU Banks To Remain Open On Sunday, September 27 Ahead Of Bank Strike

The Ministry said that this decision is aimed solely to ensure that the genuine banking needs of the public are not affected due to the strike.

It said, “In order to ensure that the genuine banking needs of the public are not adversely affected for an extended period, all Public Sector Banks and Regional Rural Banks will function normally on Sunday, the 27th of September, 2026.”

The Reserve Bank of India has given approval for bank branches, offices, ATM-linked branches and currency chests to remain "fully operational" on Sunday, September 27.

"The Government and bank managements have appealed to unions to defer the proposed strike, and have also taken measures to ensure that essential banking services continue uninterrupted," the ministry said.

Why Are Bank Employees Going n Strike?

• Five-day work week: UFBU’s key demand is the implementation of a five-day working week for banks.

• Saturday holidays: Banks currently operate on the first, third and fifth Saturdays of the month.

• Union demand: Bank unions want all Saturdays to be declared holidays.

• March 2024 agreement: The All India Bank Officers' Confederation said the five-day banking demand was agreed to and signed in March 2024.

• No response: The union said there has been no response to the demand so far.
