NEET UG 2026: Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan Inspects NTA Readiness Ahead of the Re-exam
Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan has taken direct charge of the NEET-UG 2026 paper leak crisis, convening a midnight review as the CBI probes a "breach in the chain of command" and an insider attack. The official re-exam is scheduled for June 21, 2026.
In wake of the NEET-UG 2026 examination paper leak scandal, Dharmendra Pradhan, who is the Union Education Minister, has himself stepped up to supervise the situation. He organized a midnight high-level review meeting at his house to take stock of developments as the Central Bureau of Investigation extended its probe to identify any insider connections to the National Testing Agency (NTA).
Government Admits to Breach and Takes Blame
The Union Minister admitted to a “breach in the chain of command,” declaring that there had been an “insider attack,” which allowed the question paper to be leaked through a “guess paper” route. It is being accepted by the government that there have been loopholes even after putting in place the recommendations made by the Radhakrishnan Committee post 2024 reforms.
NEET UG Re-test Date Declared
Dharmendra Pradhan announced that the NEET UG 2026 exam will take place on June 21, 2026, following the cancellation of the test conducted earlier on May 3. The re-exam would be “100 percent error-free,” he assured.
The allegations of the NEET exam irregularities came as a fresh issue for the public following the issue of frivolous questions and the high number of duplicate test papers in the exam. Chauhan's remarks coincided with the renewed public concern after reports of irregularities in the NEET exam emerged, calling for a transparent probe and tougher measures for ensuring exam integrity.
Allegations on Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan
Chauhan had said the government's reaction has been unsatisfactory and it is time to hold the top man in charge accountable. The investigation has not convinced students and parents that they are being treated unfairly in a high-stakes exam which decides medical and dental admissions across the country, he said.
His demand comes in the wake of several such events in the past, which questioned the confidentiality and fairness of the exam, further leading to anxiety among students whose careers are tied to the NEET results.
What are the Official Responses and Investigations?
The Education Ministry and investigative agencies have pointed out in the past that they do not take allegations of paper leaks lightly and adhere to the law, even arresting and probing people when there is evidence of the leak.
Authorities generally stress that investigations should be based on the evidence and that hasty political statements can hinder investigations. As Chauhan made the demand, information regarding any new findings, arrests and forensic results was still trickling in.
For the students, these debates create a sense of unease and anxiety. Candidates are advised to follow official updates from National Testing Agency (NTA) and Education Ministry, not to trust any information on social media except for official updates and keep their copies of Admit card and Question paper if any is provided.
